According to details being shared by the NHTSA, the recall affects Ford Bronco Sport SUV's and Ford Escape crossovers; the recall is due to a "risk of fire" due to the potential for a cracked fuel injector.
Here are the specifics for the recall:
- Ford Bronco Sport - with a 1.5 liter engine - 2021 to 2023
- Ford Escape - with a 1.5 liter engine - 2020 to 2023
The recall as it currently stands affects 518,993 vehicles in the United States.
According to Consumer Reports, "[w]hen the engine is on, fuel or fuel vapor could contact a hot surface and potentially ignite a fire under the hood".
Owners of the affected vehicles are directed to get them into a dealership as soon as possible to have the problem fixed - referencing NHTSA Campaign Number 22V85900 and Ford's recall number 22S73. At this time, Ford is not instructing owners to stop driving their vehicles; however, they strongly recommend that you schedule the recall repair as soon as possible.

- Install a tube that drains the fuel from the cylinder head away from hot surfaces inside the engine
