Minnesota River Officially Listed for Zebra Mussels, Invasive Carp
Despite warnings every year, invasive species appear to find their way into Minnesota waters. Recently, the Minnesota DNR confirmed zebra mussels in a western stretch of the Minnesota River.
Furthermore, because there is no significant natural or human-made barrier that could prevent downstream spread, the entire Minnesota River, to its confluence with the Mississippi River, will be added to the Infested Waters List.
Everyone out on the water plays a role to prevent the spread of invasive species. Remember, it's a Minnesota for all boaters and anglers to:
- Clean watercraft of aquatic plants and prohibited invasive species.
- Drain all water by removing drain plugs and keeping them out during transport.
- Dispose of unwanted bait in the trash.
