Minnesota DNR Stamp Contest Deadlines Are Approaching

The Northland is full of terrific artists who share a love of the outdoors.  The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources relies on such artists to design fish and wildlife stamps.

The following deadlines are approaching to submit artwork designs:

• Trout and salmon stamp: Monday, July 20, to 4:00 p.m. Friday, July 31
• Walleye stamp: Monday, July 20, to 4:00 p.m. Friday, July 31
• Waterfowl stamp: Monday, August 24, to 4:00 p.m. Friday, September 4
• Pheasant and turkey stamp: Monday, September 21, to 4:00 p.m. Friday, October 2

The background or setting of all contest entries must only represent environments found in Minnesota.  Other than that, there is plenty of room for creativity:

A contest entry may be created in one or a combination of media. Entry shall be an original work of art created by the person submitting the contest entry and shall be one of a kind design.  Printing processes, screen printing, intaglio, lithography, and relief are acceptable. A contest entry is allowed to be created using nonphotographic digital media. A person submitting a contest entry is required to list all media used in the creation of the entry.

Once all entries are received, they will be numbered so that judges will not know who created each piece of art.  The judging panel will consist of members chosen from areas of expertise including: art, ichthyology, Fish and Wildlife background, conservation, and printing.

Once judging is complete, all entries will be placed on the Minnesota DNR website for public viewing.  The winning entry, of course, will become the official fish or wildlife stamp.
