Minnesota DNR To Auction Off Confiscated Items Online In October

Someone's loss is another's gain, right? That's the case with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources confiscated equipment auctions. There's already been one that took place just a couple of weeks ago in August. The next one is scheduled for a month away and there will be plenty to bid on.

The online auction is being handled by Hiller Auction, INC. Equipment that will be auctioned off includes shotguns, rifles, handguns, bows, tree stands, and other miscellaneous equipment.

Where does the confiscated equipment come from?

The Minnesota Department Of Natural Resources can legally seize equipment, including vehicles, from hunters or anglers who violate Minnesota DNR regulations. Some of the most common reasons the DNR will confiscate equipment include:

• poaching
• exceeding limits
• harming endangered species
• improper use of traps
• illegal logging
• driving impaired

The full catalog of items will be available on the Hiller Auction website on October 3rd. Bidding will begin on October 4, 2024, at 8 am. The auction ends on October 7th at 5 pm.

Items won at auction will need to be picked up at the Auction Barn in Zimmerman, Minnesota. You'll be able to pick up the equipment on Tuesday, October 8th from 9-6 and Wednesday, October 9th from 9-3.

Fees and background checks

There is no buyer's fee for the auction, as the state of Minnesota handles that. However, the state tax does apply, and anyone who wins a firearm auction will need to pass a NICS background check. The person who registered as the bidder must pass the background check.
