This  winter we haven't had a lot of snow and temperatures have been on the mild side overall.  With that trend expected to continue, we will likely see the snow we do have melting early and then burning restrictions will be in place.

According the the Minnesota DNR, having fire restrictions in place has dramatically decreased the number and size of accidental fires. They also highly recommend alternatives to burning, such as mulching.

If you do choose to burn yard waste, you should do it when the ground is covered with snow to be as safe as possible.  The DNR says that three inches or more of continuous snow cover drastically reduces the chance a fire will escape and burn unintended areas.

Make sure to use the link below for full details on this and to check on burning permit requirements and restrictions. It's always best to place it safe when it comes to fire.
