Meet “Dining by Rail” Author, James Porterfield, in Duluth to Host an All-Sustainable, Locally Grown, Organic Dinner Train

The tourists LOVE our North Shore Scenic Railroad.  I wish that more locals would take time out of their busy lives to experience and enjoy the gem we have here in downtown Duluth.  How lucky is our city to have "dining on the rails".  Whether it's elegant, or pizza with the family.  It's still a unique offering you don't have to travel miles to appreciate.

Mr. James Porterfield is a expert historian on the railroad, an author and a food critic.  Roll that into one and you have the success called, "Dining by Rail".  The fun part of this reading is that you are not only introduced to dining car operations, you are also treated to recipes that were once closely guarded.  The food, service and presentation of the dining car was what rail companies hoped would entice their passengers to choose them.

Saturday, September 22 at the Lake Superior RR Museum, 506 West Michigan Street, Duluth   5-6p

Mr. Porterfield will then board the North Shore Scenic RR's Elegant Dinner Train for a unique evening featuring an ALL sustainable, locally produced, organic dinner prepared by Tom Hanson of the Duluth Grill (27th Avenue West, Duluth).

Many would think this is new and that it has come to be because people are "going green".  Instead, it takes us back to when trains served travelers and how their meals were prepared.  The rail companies owned their own farms, orchards and made everything from scratch themselves.
