"What is with the Lutsen fire epidemic?" That's what a Facebook user asked on Lutsen's Lodging Post that warned locals about a fire that broke out yesterday afternoon.

March 16th Fire In Lutsen

Fox21 reports that the fire took over a multi-unit townhome development near the Lutsen Mountains on Monday, around 2 pm. WTIP says it began as a chimney fire before it was upgraded to a structure fire in a multi-unit building. The official cause has not been confirmed.

Several people were evacuated from the building. Others were evacuated from nearby buildings on Moose Mountain Road.

The Lusten and Tofte Volunteer Fire Departments responded along with North Shore Ambulance. Grand Marais Fire also responded to the call.

Not The Lutsen Resort Fire Again

Of course, when you hear about a fire in Lutsen, most of us think back to the Lutsen Resort fire, which was a total loss. The owner of the resort, Bryce James Campbell, is being charged with arson and insurance fraud.

Caribou Highlands Resort Comments On Fire

Caribou Highlands Resort posted an update on their social media accounts on Monday afternoon, explaining that the fire happened at their resort in Lutsen within three of the townhomes. They added that the resort is unrelated to Lutsen Mountains or Lutsen Resort.

They offered their appreciation to the responding fire departments.

With the high-profile arson case for the Lutsen Resort still happening, I'm sure management felt it was important to distance themselves from that.

Caribou Highlands Resort is operated by Odyseey Resorts, which also runs Beacon Pointe, Larsmont Cottages, Breezy Point Cabins, Grand Superior Lodge, Lutsen Sea Villas, Mountain Inn, East Bay Suites, and Ruttger's Bay Lake.
