Sarah Thomas, Terri Valentini, each featured with a new crop of NFL referees this weekend.

Sarah has had many firsts in her life. She was the first female to officiate a major college football game in 2007, first to ref in a Big Ten Conference Stadium, and the first female to officiate in a college Bowl game.

In September of 2015, she became the first female referee when the Chiefs took on the Texans, after a couple of years in an understudy/development program and working as scrimmage referee for the New Orleans Saints.

She has worked hard and has caught the eye of the right people, she will be working the New England Patriots game as they host the Los Angeles Chargers. According to Football Zebras, a website that publishes the positions of the Referees for each game, she is listed as a down judge.

Thomas won’t be the only female official involved in the Divisional Round of the playoffs. Terri Valentini will handle replay duties during the Colts-Chiefs game on Saturday.

Valenti took a different road to the NFL working in replay for games. According to NFL.com she eventually landed a job working instant replay for the NFL, working her way to officiating replay. Terri Valentini has some firsts under her belt too. She became the first woman to ref a game with the now-defunct United Football League in 2009 and was also named Official of the Year in the Arena Football League in 2015.
