Look For DNR Invasive Species Checkpoints On MN Highways
It's been a common occurence for the last few years to have the DNR check your boat for invasive species at boat launches across the state. However, this Saturday was the first time I actually saw a designated pull over checkpoint along a highway. It was on Highway 53 just south of Canyon, MN.
Signs indicated that any water related equipment should pull over for DNR inspection. On the side of the road they an inspection station with several DNR officers and vehicles, with approximately a half a dozen boats and other watercraft parked.
While I've always expected to run into the DNR at the launches, this will be a new regulation we may encounter. Good news that is if you follow the guidelines and are not contaminated, checks should only take a matter of minutes.
