Can You Help? Great Lakes Aquarium Seeks Smelt For River Otters
This might be the most Minnesotan thing ever and I mean that in a good way. The Great Lakes Aquarium is asking for help from the public and you might be able to help them in their quest.
The attraction is famous in its own right and for good reason. It's located right along the shores of Lake Superior and is dedicated to freshwater education. If you've been, you also know it is awesome.

Now, staff need your help. A plea was put out on social media Wednesday (May 6th), with staff sharing that there is currently a wholesale smelt shortage. This is a big deal because many of their animals rely on smelt for survival.
Their two resident river otters (SO CUTE) really need smelt donations. If you are able to help, they urge the public to reach out.
Staff also say they are open to talking to local fishers who may catch smelt on their own and doing a ticket trade of some sort if they are able to donate. Even if you only have a little, it could still go a long way in helping them with this mission.

If this applies to you or you think you could help, you are asked to reach out to the Great Lakes Aquarium during business hours. Otherwise, you can email nriemer@glaquarium.com and work things out that way.
