Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw Launch Brothers of the Sun Tour With a Bang
The long wait came to an end over the weekend when Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney‘s joint Brothers of the Sun Tour kicked off in Tampa, Fla. Saturday (June 2). The cat was even let out of the bag for the new McGraw music that he has been keeping tight-lipped about. His set consisted of fan favorites like ‘I Like It, I Love It,’ ‘Live Like You Were Dying,’ ‘Felt Good on My Lips’ and ‘Real Good Man,’ but also incorporated a few brand new tunes in ‘Mexicoma’ and ‘Truck Yeah.’
The show-stopping ‘Truck Yeah’ has already received rave reviews from fans and peers. McGraw closed out his set with the up-tempo new track with clever lyrics and a beat that will get everyone up and out of their seats (see for yourself in the video below) night after night. If this song is any indication of what we can expect from McGraw since inking a new record deal with Big Machine, we’re in for one heck of a ride!
Chesney kept the night rockin’ when he emerged in the middle of the crowd for his opening number and proceeded to float to the stage on a swing. He cranked out his own slew of hits, including ‘Beer in Mexico,’ ‘Keg in the Closet,’ ‘Summertime’ and his current single, ‘Come Over.’ Of course, having Grace Potter on the lineup, the two took the stage together for their smash duet, ‘You and Tequila.’
But Chesney and McGraw saved the best for last — a 30-minute encore, starting with their recent duet, ‘Feel Like a Rock Star,’ and followed by their individual hits ‘She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy,’ ‘Indian Outlaw’ and more.
Jake Owen was also mixed into the seven-hour show, and he continuously stopped to pinch himself throughout the night on his Twitter page. At one point after his set, Owen tweeted a picture of him in the middle of the Tampa Bay Bucs cheerleaders (all donning ‘Truck Yeah’ tank-tops). “Life is good,” Owen tweeted as the picture’s caption. “Greatest night ever. First show of the Brothers of the Sun tour in the bag. Tampa Bay was awesome. I’m [honored] to be out here. Unreal.”
“I have to tell you … what a fitting place Tampa is for us to start the Brothers of the Sun Tour,” Chesney says. “Here, it’s always summertime.”
The Brothers of the Sun Tour continues on this coming weekend with stops in Texas and Missouri. Click here for a full list of dates where the tour will be stopping this summer.
