Recently the Mall of America bucked the recent retail trend of being open on Thanksgiving by announcing that they would not be open.  However, they did say that individual stores could decide whether they wanted to be open or not on the holiday.  Skeptics figured the announcement was made to generate good publicity, but that most stores would be open.  The skeptics were wrong.

StarTribune.com is reporting that after receiving so much positive buzz surrounding their Thanksgiving announcement, the Mall Of America actually decided to lock their doors and now only 3 stores will be open on Thanksgiving Day.

Macy's, Sears and the Crayola Experience, all of who have exterior entrance options, will be the only MOA stores open that day.  The rest of the mall will be completely shut down.

The mall's doors will be locked about noon on Thanksgiving, after hosting the annual Walk to End Hunger, and will then be open at 5 a.m. on Black Friday.

I'm a fan of this decision because I think Black Friday was just fine the way it was, knowing a lot of people who had long Black Friday traditions in their family.  Opening on Thanksgiving is really not done to help consumers, it's done out of pure greed by the stores.
