Following the release of his newest studio album, The Search for EverythingJohn Mayer has shipped a single to country radio. Readers can press play below to hear "In the Blood."

"In the Blood" finds Mayer reflecting on his family's influence on his personality, and how his upbringing has affected his life as an adult: "How much of my mother has my mother left in me?" Mayer sings. "How much of my father am I destined to become?" Each time, he asks, "Will it wash out in the water / Or is it always in the blood?"

"I can feel the love I want / I can feel the love I need / But it's never gonna come the way I am," Mayer sings in the chorus of "In the Blood." "Could I change it if I wanted? / Can I rise above the flood? / Will it wash out in the water / Or is it always in the blood?"

Listen to John Mayer, "In the Blood":

"In the Blood" is Track No. 5 (of 12) on The Search for Everything, which Mayer released in April via Columbia Records. The song is being promoted at country radio through Columbia Nashville and Arista Nashville.

Although Mayer has never released a country single before, he has collaborated with some of the genre's big names throughout his career. Mayer's 2009 album Battle Studies features Taylor Swift on the Grammys-nominated single "Half of My Heart," and in 2010, Mayer and Keith Urban teamed up for an episode of CMT's Crossroads series. Mayer and Urban met again in 2014, when they collaborated for a performance during The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute to the Beatles; additionally, in 2012, Mayer performed during the Zac Brown Band's Southern Ground Music & Food Festival in Nashville.

The Search for Everything is Mayer's seventh studio project, but it's his first since 2013.
