It seems like every major retailer has made a similar announcement as of late. Now, a popular department store is closing locations nationwide.

A recent example is JOANN Fabrics. The chain announced earlier this year that they would be closing several locations across the country.

The good news is that our Duluth location will remain open. It's located in the Burning Tree Plaza and one of my favorite stores so I am glad it's not going anywhere!

Now, reports say JCPenney will be shuttering locations this year. With several locations in Minnesota and one in Duluth, I am wondering - will we be impacted?

According to the most recent report, JCPenney will be closing eight stores across the country. The closures are due to lease agreements coming to an end and other business-related factors.

Eight stores in the grand scheme of things isn't much. The stores will close at some point later this year, around the summertime. How will we be impacted in Minnesota and Wisconsin?

The good news is - we won't see the impact of these nationwide closures this time around. If they make more cuts in the future, it's possible. However, as of now, no locations in Minnesota or Wisconsin will be closed.

This is great news for Duluthians, as there is a JCPenney attached to the Miller Hill Mall! That store will remain open so you can still shop until you drop, as they say.

Stores in California, West Virginia and Idaho are among the locations closing this year, by the way.
