Fresh Fruits and Veggies Grown During the Winter in Minnesota? Ubetcha!
Winter in Minnesota! Good for snowmobiling and ice fishing, but not so much for gardening. If you’re like my wife and you love tomatoes, you’ll have to choose from what the grocery store imports from warmer weather states, right?
Not necessarily. There’s a farm here in Minnesota that grows tomatoes, even in the dead of winter. Bushel Boy Farms is headquartered in Owatonna and has developed a method of being able to produce delicious fruits and vegetables all year long.
Everything Bushel Boy produces is grown in green houses which they say offer the optimum conditions even when there’s snow on the ground and the cold winds of winter are blowing around Minnesota.
The company says they are constantly monitoring their environmental systems that allow them to keep a close watch on light, temperature, nutrient levels, and CO2 levels and then make any needed adjustments.
The company also closely monitors something else, when their products are at peak ripeness. Once the fruits and vegetables hit the perfect time to be picked, they are rushed to stores so that customers have fresh options to choose from.
In addition to several varieties of tomatoes, Bushel Boy Farms produces strawberries, as well as long English cucumbers, baby cucumbers, and mini cucumbers too.
Bushel Boy products are available all-around Minnesota and the Mid-West at Coborn's, Cash Wise, Lund's and Byerly's, Hy-Vee, Target, Cub Foods and many others.
In addition to the farm in Owatonna, Bushel Boy also has a location in Mason City Iowa as well.
