Some people like to go golfing, fishing, hunting, or even gambling as a hobby. For me, my favorite thing to do in my spare time is going to see live music. I would go every day if that was possible. It puts me in a happy place.

Of course, I've been to concert venues throughout the United States. I've lived in Illinois my whole life so I've been to most of the places in our state. Since I moved to Rockford many years ago, I'll go up to Wisconsin for shows because it's much easier to get to than Chicago.
Wisconsin is known for its outdoor summer music festivals but I think it's a little bit under the radar for actual concert venues. I've learned there are some really cool places in that state to see live music.
I much prefer smaller more intimate concert venues to see live music. I think the bigger the building the less personality the show has. The only thing about smaller places, they're usually much older. Every once in a while a new one will pop up. There's a really cool one in Madison.
I highly recommend checking out the Sylvee in Madison. It's a state-of-the-art facility. The sound, lights, and the sightlines are amazing. It's a small place and sometimes they'll bring in bigger bands which is cool.
Recently, the Sylvee was named one of the best clubs in the United States. I believe that's a well-earned honor. This new venue is starting to get legendary status. I can't wait to go up there again for a show.
