MSP Airport One Of Best In Country In Important Category
It's another impressive ranking for the biggest airport in Minnesota, which has once again been named the best airport in the entire country in this important category.
The Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) is the largest airport in the North Star State. So it's no surprise that a LOT of Minnesotans (and Iowans and Wisconsinites and others) head through the TSA checkpoints at MSP each year when traveling across the country and overseas.
It helps that you can fly to A LOT of different places directly from MSP without having to catch a connecting flight elsewhere. In fact, the airport says that airlines at MSP served 163 nonstop destinations from the Land of 10,000 Lakes in 2023, up from 156 destinations in 2023 and 145 destinations in 2022.

And now, a new ranking from travel industry site, AirHelp, has just listed MSP as one of the best airports in the country when it comes to flight disruptions. Or specifically, when it comes to minimizing those flight disruptions.
Just what are we talking about when we say 'flight disruption'? Here's AirHelp's definition:
A 'flight disruption' refers to any event that alters a flight's planned schedule or operation, negatively impacting passengers' travel plans. This encompasses flight delays, cancellations, diversions, or denied boarding due to overbooking.
The U.S. Department of Transportation notes that those disruptions can fall into three different categories:
- Situations within the airline's control: These include issues like maintenance problems, crew scheduling conflicts, or commercial decisions.
- Situations within the airline's control but required for safety: Circumstances necessitating safety measures, such as unexpected technical issues discovered before departure.
- Situations outside the airline's control: External factors like adverse weather conditions, political instability, or air traffic control restrictions.

None of those situations are fun to encounter when you're flying, but the good news is that according to AirHelp, MSP Airport is one of the best airports in the country for keeping those disruptions to a minimum.
In fact, only 22.1 percent of flights experienced a disruption at MSP Airport during February 2025, AirHelp said in a release. MSP ranked 9th on the survey of airports with over 10,000 flights last month. That ranking is pretty impressive, especially when you consider the messy weather Minnesota often experiences during winter, which can easily delay and cancel many flights.
