We've always suspected it, but now a new survey confirms that Minnesota is one of the most intelligent states in the country.

The results are in, and we're pretty intelligent here in the Land of 10,000 Lakes. Now, that's not bragging, mind you, it's a fact-- at least according to a new national survey that says Minnesota is the third-most intelligent state in America.

In fact, only two other states-- that'd be Montana and New Hampshire, in case you're curious-- ranked higher than the North Star State did in this new survey of intelligent states from the online education platform Guru99.com.

Here are the different criteria Guru99.com looked at to compile these 'intelligence rankings':

  • Average IQ
  • Graduation rates
  • Percentage of the population with low literacy rates
  • Average SAT scores
  • Percentage the states that don’t have a high school diploma or GED and GDP per capita.

These categories were then given a score out of 10 and combined to give a total score of 60.  And Minnesota came in with the third-highest score out of all 50 states. Here's what Guru99.com said about the Gopher State:

Minnesota ranks as the third most innovative state. Only 5.8% of the population doesn’t have a high school diploma or GED, and the average SAT score is 1225, one of the highest figures in America. On top of that, Minnesota has increased graduation rates of 94.13%.

Now, keep in mind that earlier this year, the Bold North was also ranked second in the nation when it comes to 'smart' states, as well. In fact, in that survey, Minnesota came in at number two on the Guru99.com list of the smartest states in America.
