Kwik Trip Is Finally Coming to This Twin Cities Suburb
For years, Kwik Trip fans in one of the Twin Cities' busiest suburbs have had to drive elsewhere for their favorite coffee, bakery treats, and Glazer's donuts. That's about to change, as the iconic convenience store chain has officially taken a major step toward opening its very first location in Bloomington.
Kwik Trip is one of the most loved convenience stores in the upper Midwest these days. The familiar chain opened its first store in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, in 1965. Its corporate headquarters and massive bakery, creamery, warehouse, and kitchens are located in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
Kwik Trip Continues Its Rapid Growth Across the Midwest
Kwik Trip said as of 2026, it operates 925 separate convenience stores, which are spread among seven different states:
- Wisconsin
- Minnesota
- Iowa
- Illinois
- North Dakota
- South Dakota
- Michigan
Why Kwik Trip Is Different From Other Convenience Stores
The company operates under the name Kwik Trip in Wisconsin and here in Minnesota, and as Kwik Star in Iowa and other states, to avoid confusion with similarly named chains. Its home state of Wisconsin has the most Kwik Trips, with around 510-- over half of its total stores-- currently located in the Dairy State. There are currently around 229 Kwik Trips in Minnesota, with 158 in Iowa.

The massive chain employs over 35,000 people, as well, and has its own bakery, kitchens, dairy, distribution, and transportation divisions. These allow Kwik Trip to produce many of the food items it serves, which are delivered to each local Kwik Trip store every day.
Bloomington Is Getting Its First-Ever Kwik Trip
And now, Kwik Trip has just purchased two properties in a busy area of Bloomington, where it plans to build its first-ever stores in that south metro area of the Twin Cities. According to the Sun-Current, Kwik Trip has finalized the purchase of two parcels on West 94th Street, east of the Interstate 35W exits and entrance ramps.
That site is currently home to two buildings, which the Sun-Current says will be demolished to make way for the new Kwik Trip. The story said that while the sale was previously approved by the Bloomington Planning Commission earlier this year, construction isn't expected to start until early 2027, with the Kwik Trip set to open roughly 5 months later.
As we noted earlier, Kwik Trip continues to be one of the most popular brands in the Midwest, and likely, one of the most profitable, as well.
