Top 5 MN Cities People Are Flocking To Right Now
Looking to make a move in Minnesota? These five cities are attracting new residents faster than you can say 'tater tot hotdish,' and it’s not hard to see why.
If you had to guess, are more people moving to or moving from the Land of 10,000 Lakes? That's the question the hardworking crew over at the Minnesota State Demographic Center (MSDC) sets out to answer every year. And the latest answer might surprise you.
According to the MSDC's most recent survey, An Analysis of Migration Trends and Patterns in Minnesota, the results show that more people are leaving the North Star State than are moving here.
For the past 20 years, Minnesota has consistently lost residents on net to other U.S. states. After a brief period of much larger net outflows during the COVID-19 pandemic, losses moderated in 2023.
However, the report also noted that while Minnesota has seen more people leaving than moving to Minnesota, our state has also seen its fair share of new arrivals moving here from other states, the report said. But there are five cities that are currently attracting the most new residents of the North Star State-- and no, Minneapolis and St. Paul are *not* on the list.

So, to which cities are these new Minnesotans moving the most? That's where moving and storage company U-Haul, and its 2025 Midyear Migration Trends survey, comes in handy. U-Haul notes that around half of all residential moves in the U.S. happen between Memorial Day and Labor Day, and it has found the following five cities are the most popular with people moving to the Gopher State:
1) - Hermantown - This fast-growing suburb of Duluth is becoming known for its mix of small-town charm, modern amenities, and easy access to outdoor adventures.
2) - Rochester - The home of the world-famous Mayo Clinic, Rochester has grown quickly over the past decade, increasing its population by over 13 percent and is now the third-largest city in Minnesota, and largest outside of the Twin Cities metro.
