A Documentary About the Minnesota State Fair is Coming
If you went to the Minnesota State Fair this year and saw a camera crew wandering around, you may have spotted the filming of a new documentary all about the Minnesota State Fair.
The goal of the documentary is to show people around the world what makes the fair so special and to show fair-lovers hopefully a new side of the fair they haven't seen before.

Minnesota State Fair Documentary - THE FAIR
The documentary is called THE FAIR and it's being produced and directed by a big Minnesota State Fair fan. His name is Alec Fischer and him and his crew filmed throughout the 2026 state fair to get the right shots and the right stories for this documentary.
Shot entirely in observational style and edited to take place over a single day from dawn until dark, THE FAIR is a selection of carefully interwoven short stories showcasing the vendors, competitions, and traditions that make the Minnesota State Fair intriguing and magical.
Alec grew up in the suburbs of Minneapolis and he said the fair "always seemed like a magical place". In high school, he worked for Sweet Martha's Cookie Jar for two summers where he really got to see the innerworkings of not only the highest-earning booth at the fair but the innerworkings of the fair itself.
Now, he hopes THE FAIR documentary will hit screens in 2027 to show people the magic of the fair.
Across 12 days, Minnesotans from all backgrounds, geographies, and life experiences come together to build something truly impressive.
Their hope is to complete the film this fall, then to submit the film to 2027 film festivals, and then for it to hit theaters in mid-2027.
An extended trailer for the documentary is out if you wanted to take a peek and get excited!
