WATCH: Wisconsin Couple Gets Engaged at Hozier Concert, Fans Confused by Song Choice
Hozier was performing in our neck of the woods over the weekend. He did a show in St. Paul, Minnesota on Saturday, August 17th, and the day before that he performed in Madison, Wisconsin.
Hozier has an amazing voice and I love his music. Some of his music can have some heavy messages in it, too. And apparently one couple didn't realize the meaning of one of his songs the other night.

Wisconsin Couple Gets Engaged at Hozier Concert
During the show, Hozier is starting his next song and gets about 30 seconds in when he hears a bunch of screaming.
Concerned, he paused the show to see if everyone was ok. Everything was totally fine and he learned that someone proposed! In the clip, he says "I’m so delighted for you. Is that the hand, newly ringed? Alright… this of all the songs too?"
The song he's referencing is his song 'Cherry Wine'. Check out the clip below.
@rollingwithrogues Some one got engaged to Cherry Wine at the Hozier concert in Madison, Wisconsin. Scared everyone, scared everyone, including Hozier. Did not sound like happy screams, and also.... What is the Song 'Cherry Wine' by Hozier About?
So what's the big deal with this song? NME writes that the song is often "misinterpreted as a love song", and I'll admit, I thought that too before learning the lyrics.
As you listen and figure out the lyrics, you might notice it's not a love song like you thought it was. That's because the song is actually about domestic abuse. So you can see why fans and Hozier himself were confused about someone getting engaged to that song.
I'm hoping the couple just didn't realize the true meaning of the song. Also, if you or someone you know is in an unsafe relationship, you can call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 800-799-7233.
