Looks Like Hy-Vee Is Bringing Something New To Minnesota Stores
Our world is getting very techy! And if you don't like seeing screens, you aren't going to like the changes that are rolling out at one of the biggest grocery stores in the Midwest. And no, I am not talking about Walmart, although they are already in the works to add this feature to a huge chunk of their stores in the United States too.

Hy-Vee Transforming 230+ Stores With Digital Shelf Labels
Next time you roll through the grocery aisle to grab a loaf of bread, you may notice that the aisles are starting to look the world we are in today vs when our grandparents were shopping. Just a few weeks ago, Walmart announced that about 2,300 of their stores were being updated with digital shelf labels. And now, news is circulating that one of Forbes' top companies for customer service, Hy-Vee, is also jumping on the digital shelf label trend.
According to GroceryDive.com, Hy-Vee will implement electronic shelf labels from VusionGroup to over 230 stores, which isn't quite 100%, but very close to their store total.
What Hy-Vee Stores Are Going To Have The New Digital Shelf Labels?
The list of stores receiving this upgrade isn't out yet but there is a good possibility that Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois stores will see this new feature. Since Des Moines, Iowa is home of Hy-Vee, Iowa will see that uprade. I can almost guarantee that. Maybe not all of the Iowa stores, but a good chunk should.
Why Is Hy-Vee Adding Digital Shelf Labels to its Stores?
If you walk through a Hy-Vee store now and pay attention to every single piece of paper that has the price on it, you will notice that there are quite a few, probably thousands, in the store. Someone had to put all of those up, one-by-one, in every single aisle. From a productivity standpoint, I think it is pretty obvious why this change is being implemented. P2Pi.com dug into that a bit more though and shared why this upgrade to digital shelf labels is happening at the majority of Hy-Vee stores. Those include:
- employees will have more time for replenishment of products, merchandising and customer service
- items that have a shorter shelf life can be marked down quickly
- on-line orders can be filled more efficiently and will increase productivity for employees
