Every Wednesday night, my dining room table gets transformed into a triage area.  Yes...Every Wednesday.

I never expected to have this "caregiver" role thrown at me in my 40s.  And if I'm completely honest, it has had some really horrible days.  Wednesday nights are on that list.  I'm not the one having 6 needles put in my stomach area, but I have had to put them in, and I get nauseous just seeing all of the equipment for the treatment that my husband gets each week.

A few years ago, my husband started getting pretty sick...over and over again.  Eventually, he found out that he had a chronic illness called Common Variable Immunodeficiency (also known as CVID).  According to the National Library of Medicine, 1 in 25,000 people are diagnosed with CVID.  To sum it up simply, his body quit making antibodies.  If you gave him an immunization for something, it would be out of his body in about 30 days or less.  His body will not hold onto anything that will help him fight off infections.  In other words, something as simple as a cold could kill him.  (This is why I get a little OCD in the studio and am constantly sanitizing everything.)

There is one thing that can help him...a drug called IVIG.  Every Wednesday, 6 needles are put into his stomach and pump that drug into his body.  Unfortunately, this drug is only possible if people donate plasma.

Donors.  My family - my husband - relies on people who give up an hour or so of their life so my husband can live his.  Plain and simple.
