Two Deaths Reported on Minnesota’s Roads Saturday
Undated (KROC-AM News)- At least two people lost their lives on Minnesota’s roads Saturday.
One of the fatalities involved two vehicles and the other was a collision between a car and pedestrian. The first deadly incident happened in the Twin Cities area and the second occurred in northern Minnesota.
Authorities in Anoka County responded to the report of a motor vehicle crash on a rural road in Columbus, which is about 10 miles northeast of Blaine. The preliminary investigation indicates a northbound SUV entered the southbound lane of a two-lane road where it collided with an SUV that was driving south.
The driver of the wrong-way vehicle, described as an adult female, was pronounced dead at the scene. The southbound driver, described as an adult male, was taken to a hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. The names of the drivers involved have not been released.
The second fatality happened about five hours later in Crow Wing County near the western shore of Mille Lacs Lake. The State Patrol says a car traveling west on Hwy. 18 struck a pedestrian at a rural intersection.
The pedestrian is described as a 30-year-old woman from Princeton. Her name and details surrounding her death are set to be released at a later time.
The driver of the car, identified as 49-year-old Roland Dale Aasen of Zimmerman, MN, was not hurt.
