Update: Bemidji, MN (KROC-AM News)- Authorities say a juvenile suspected of threatening a school district employee is in custody.

A news release issued by the Bemidji Police Department Wednesday morning says dispatchers received multiple text-to-911 messages that contained the threat towards the school and staff member. Unable to immediately trace the source of the message, authorities advised the Bemidji School District switch to an e-learning day on Wednesday.

Upon further investigation, authorities determined the source of the text messages and the person using the phone. It came from a residence in Bemidji.

Officers identified the location and apprehended the juvenile suspect. He was arrested on suspicion of terroristic threats.

Parents and guardians were informed of the learning shift Tuesday night. The shift was advised by law enforcement.

An email sent to families in Bemidji School District shortly before 10:30 p.m. by Superintendent Jeremy Olson says authorities alerted him to the credible threat against one of the district's schools on around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday. The email does not say which school was threatened and does not share details about the threat.

The email goes on to say the school district and police department are collaborating and that officials hope to have more information to pass along to families later in the day on Wednesday.

A post on the Bemidji High School’s Facebook page says in part, “We take the safety and security of our students and staff very seriously.”

Approximately 4,800 students make up the Bemidji School District, according to U.S. News and World Report.
