A moose that many believe was spotted in Iowa earlier this year is continuing its journey Northward as it was recently spotted less than 40 miles from St. Cloud, in the Lake Henry/Spring Hill area.

IF this is the same animal that was spotted back in September in Iowa, it has come a long way and it doesn't seem to be done traveling Northward, back into its natural habitat and range in either Northwestern or Northeastern Minnesota.

A Facebook group, which has been following reports of the moose updates a map with sightings, and as you can see from the picture above the moose has been spotted as it travels North, somewhat following MN-4, here in Central Minnesota.

While it's quite rare in Minnesota to see a moose in real life, as they often steer clear of people, they are still spotted from time to time outside of their normal territory.

According to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, if you encounter a moose know that "Though they appear formidable, moose are seldom aggressive. Exceptions are a cow that feels her calf is in danger, or a bull in rut...Rutting or mating season occurs from mid-September to mid-October."

Knowing that from the Minnesota Department of Natural Resouces, I don't think it's smart to try and walk up to this HUGE animal if you happen to see it wandering through the area.

Maintain a safe distance from the moose, it would be a shame if this large mammal became comfortable around people, or dependent upon them for food.

If that were to happen the DNR would almost certainly get involved, but at this time it seems the Minnesota DNR is letting the moose wander back home, which is the best case scenario for both the moose and fans of the wandering Northwoods giant.
