Do Minnesota Parents Let Their Kids Play With Ouija Boards?
WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU KNOW ABOUT OUIJA BOARDS?
What do you know, or think you know about a Ouija Board? Ever since I was a kid, I've always been a bit fascinated with the ability to predict the future, talk with people who have moved on, or dare to ask questions i really don't want the answers to.
I don't know where we got one, but I think it was my neighbor's house when my cousin and I stayed overnight for a sleepover. No adults really told us we couldn't play with it, but it isn't like our parents were all sitting around a Ouija Board with us. I don't think they even knew we dug it out of the closet. We always did that at sleepovers when the adults were sleeping. If it were so dangerous, you would think parents wouldn't have it in the house, right?
DARE YOU ASK?
Although I don't remember any of the answers to the questions my cousin and I asked, I do remember asking things like, "When will I die?" I'm sure we asked stupid questions.
But I do have lots of questions about this thing. Although I figured the planchette was being moved around by my cousin, maybe it wasn't.
CHESTERTOWN MARYLAND
The Ouija Board was born in 1886 in Chestertown, Maryland, and named in 1890 in Baltimore where the board was first manufactured. Since the very beginning, newspapers at the time reported that it was a way to communicate with the dead, predict catastrophes, commit crimes, and solve unsolved mysteries.
It's probably Pearl Curran, who was a St. Louis housewife who used the board to supposedly talk with the spirit of a woman from the 17th century. The woman's name was Patience Worth. Pearl not only talked to Patience, she published Patience's writings. Apparently, the writings were brilliant as they were met with 'critical acclaim.'
Reader's Digest has some pretty scary stories about using Ouija boards, but is it all just fake news? This is one of the stories from Readers Digest.
Most people play with a Ouija board in groups, or at least with one other person. But Ossiana wanted to try to use it on her own. She put her hands on the pointer and asked questions, but nothing happened. She took her hands off of the pointer and was about to put the game away when the planchette began to move around on its own. “I’ll never try that again,” says the 30-year-old from New Jersey.
IF YOU BELIEVE...REMEMBER THIS
The one thing that I've read is if you are going to use a Ouija Board, you need to close the board by taking the Planchette to the words Good Bye. If you don't, the eye remains open and people say all kinds of crazy things keep happening. This could be because they opened the path to the other side, but never bothered to close it.
