Is This Limited-Edition Metallica Whiskey Worth The Cost?
A couple of months back several of us went to see Metallica at U.S. Bank Stadium for two nights of awesome.
Prior to the first night, I had to grab a bottle of BLACKENED 72 Seasons Whiskey to add to the experience.
Coming in at about 38 bucks for a bottle, I didn't feel the price point was bad for having the Metallica name behind it. It's a blend of straight rye and bourbon whiskeys which gets finished in black brandy barrels.
As always, I try whiskeys or bourbons new to me neat and then with a cube or two. Right out of the bottle, this whiskey has a hint of spice and sweet together that is very easy to drink on its own. There was minimal burn if any at all making me want to mellow it with ice.
Still, I tried it with a couple of cubes, and it mellowed well, but most of the not regular whiskey drinkers at the party wanted a small bump of Coke to go with it. For me, neat, on the rocks, or even with a hint of soda worked well for this whiskey.
I enjoyed it so much that it's now become a staple in the cupboard as price for what you get is a win/win for me. It also did its job helping with the pre-game for the two nights of Metallica which were as good as I'd hoped they would be.
