I ran into someone today that was throwing a fit over people who say, "happy holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas".  It's about the seventh time I've heard someone complain about it this holiday...er...um, Christmas Season already.

It's to the point that it's almost comical now, as if someone threatened to ban them from planet earth if they dare utter the word "Christmas".  Acting like someone is trying to take Christmas away from them.

Yes, some businesses and even some people who have freewill have decided to use a more neutral saying of "Happy Holidays", especially in the last ten or so years.  When you actually think about it though, it does basically cover the gauntlet of any holidays starting at Thanksgiving and rolling into the New Year.

I grew up not celebrating holidays, so for me even now, I don't care what you say to me, and I don't care what you say to others.  Saying "Merry Christmas" or "happy holidays" is someone saying something nice to you, wishing goodwill.  We don't need to take offense to how someone chooses to do that.

What's also comical to me is that many of the same people who get offended if someone goes the "happy holidays" route vs "Merry Christmas", are the same ones who say people get too offended nowadays.

Just remember, someone saying "happy holidays" to you technically covers Christmas, so if you are one of those offended people, try to relax.  No one is taking away your right to say Christmas.  Plus, if a stranger says, "happy holidays", they probably don't know you celebrate Christmas, and wouldn't that be rude of them to assume?  My point of all this?  Just be nice, as that's what this time of the year is supposed to be about.
