This Wisconsin Playground Could Be America’s Best

Drive through any neighborhood, and you’ll likely find a playground for the local kids to play on, but few playgrounds get the recognition this Wisconsin playground is getting right now.

USA Today is ranking the best things in America with their "10Best" series. They’ve recently nominated 20 public playgrounds from across the country and are asking, “Which public playground is the best?”

USA Today’s National Playground Ranking

"America's public playgrounds bring families, friends, and communities closer together and help forge unforgettable memories," says USA Today. Their panel of experts looked at playground design, inclusive features, interactivity, and family-friendly amenities when creating the list of finalists.

The Kendall Weisgerber Memorial Playground, located in Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin, on the shores of Lake Michigan and one of the farthest points east in the state, has been nominated as one of the best in the country.

USA Today highlights several reasons why this playground stands out. They note that the Kendall Weisgerber Memorial Playground "revolutionizes inclusive play with its thoughtfully designed zones that accommodate tots and older children of all abilities."

A Legacy of Love and Community

According to Door County Daily News, the park was originally built in 1992 and recently underwent a major renovation, which included the addition of an arch decorated with butterflies by local students.

The park was named after Kendall Weisgerber, who tragically drowned in 1992 at the age of six. It's a heartbreaking story, but the playground now stands as a beautiful tribute and lasting legacy to Kendall's memory.

How to Vote for Wisconsin’s Top Playground

Voting is open for the best public playground until Monday, April 7 at 11 AM CST. The top 10 list will be announced on Wednesday, April 16.
