This holiday season, Target is going all in with new technology. Last week, the retailer announced that it is adding helpful AI tools into its app, and now it is rolling out a new partnership that gives customers even more ways to shop.

Target Brings AI Shopping Into ChatGPT

Starting next week, customers will be able to shop at Target inside ChatGPT. This first of its kind feature is described as an effort to reimagine AI powered shopping as a curated and conversational experience. It marks a major step in how big box retailers use artificial intelligence during the busiest shopping season of the year, especially in regions like Minnesota where Target loyalty runs deep.

The new tool will let shoppers chat with ChatGPT to add multiple items at once, discover new products, request personalized recommendations, and check out using their Target account. It turns shopping lists into full conversations and aims to speed up the entire process for busy holiday shoppers.

How It Works for Everyday Minnesota Shoppers

The Target app inside ChatGPT allows customers to ask open-ended questions like “can you help me plan a family movie night.” The AI will return suggestions for things you might want, including popcorn, soda, blankets, movie ideas, and even seasonal treats you would find at Minnesota Target stores. Shoppers can quickly add some or all of the items to their cart without searching item by item.

Target says it will keep adding features as the tool evolves in the weeks ahead. Updates in development include linking a Target Circle account and offering same-day delivery through its existing fulfillment system. These upgrades are expected to roll out through the holiday season.

A Crucial Holiday Season for Target

This holiday shopping season is an important one for Target as the company continues to face financial challenges. The retailer recently lowered its profit outlook for the year ahead, but it is working to regain momentum by investing in new technology like AI and by opening larger stores across the country. Target is counting on innovation to stay competitive during a high pressure retail environment.
