At the end of the most recent episode of the weekly HBO show "Last Week Tonight," hosted by John Oliver, a Minnesota Twins affiliate team was in the crosshairs of a comedy bit that could see the team change its name.

In the segment at the conclusion of the show's May 4 episode, Oliver discussed the quirky and hilarious antics a lot of Minor League Baseball teams employ for marketing stunts to get fans in the stands and to buy merchandise.

While highlighting a number of goofy names, mascots, and theme nights, the St. Paul Saints were one of a small handful of teams that came up. The Minnesota Twins Triple-A affiliate was noted as one of a few teams that could use a little help with their name.

He pointed to the St. Paul Saints as one of a few teams whose names were just "first thought choices", which he called "pretty disappointing" because these names don't embrace the "glorious eccentricity of the magnificent league they belong to", saying "they're kinda leaving money on the table."

To that point, Oliver offered the creative and silly brain power of his team to devote some effort to come up with a rebrand plan for one of these teams. Among the things the "winning team" would get are a new name, a new mascot, and even a special theme night.

He said the whole new creative vision would be "personalized and bespoke".

The key stipulations that were laid out are that the team can't ask any questions or give them any notes, and you have to go with what they come up with. It's a daring risk, but it has the potential to be incredibly fun.

A number of people saw the episode and reached out to the St. Paul Saints to let them know. The team did acknowledge the messages, saying in a social media post that they have indeed followed the steps laid out in the show to be considered for a rebrand by Oliver and his team.

While the team offered that their name may be "plain", Saints fans are "the exact opposite".

Now it is up to Oliver and his team to decide on which team they will offer this rebrand to, once the "submission period" is over.

It is worth noting, though, that while the team's name may not be as exciting as some others in the league, they do still have a lot of quirky things they do at games, which has been a tradition for quite some time. This could just be the next piece to that! We'll just have to wait and see.
