One of the first questions asked when Tim Walz was announced as Kamala Harris' running mate was, who will play him on Saturday Night Live?

The first name that people immediately latched on to was 'Only Murders in the Building' star, and SNL alum, Steve Martin. The buzz got so intense, that Martin and SNL Producer
Lorne Michaels came out publicly that he wouldn't be taking up the role as VP Candidate Tim Walz.

Another name that was brought up at the time, was Comedian Jim Gaffigan, he also has that "Tim Walz look". SNL had its season premiere this weekend, as it kicks off its 50th season on NBC, and all was revealed in the first sketch of the season.

The cold open to SNL featured the return of Maya Rudolph playing Kamala Harris, Andy Samberg playing her husband Doug Emhoff, James Austin Johnson playing Donald Trump, Bowen Yang taking up the role of JD Vance, Dana Carvey brilliantly playing Joe Biden, and (drum roll), playing Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, was Jim Gaffigan.

Gaffigan came out as a rather goofy, very energetic version of Walz, proclaiming that he hasn't been this excited since he "got a 10% rebate on a leaf blower from Menards." Of course, everyone knows it's an 11% rebate.

His impersonation of Governor Walz, was good and filled with funny one-liners, and I'm sure we can look forward to more appearances by Gaffigan as the election nears and with a VP debate coming up this week. And, depending on the outcome of the election, we could be seeing much more of Gaffigan in the coming years.
