Rocket-Propelled Grenade Found in Minnesota Home After Raid

A shocking discovery even took authorities by surprise when a rocket-propelled grenade was found during a drug raid.

The Hennepin County Sheriff's Office posted the alarming discovery, saying, "We have recovered many illegal weapons over the years, but an RPG is a first!" The Sheriff's Office says that they were conducting a search warrant at a Minneapolis residence when the RPG round was found along with narcotics and other weapons.

Two adult males were arrested during the raid and authorities recovered fentanyl powder, two handguns, one that was modified with an "auto-sear", essentially making it a mini machine gun, and of course the RPG round.

The Minneapolis Police Department Bomb Squad and the Minnesota National Guard were brought in to help to dispose of the dangerous RPG round. After investigating the RPG, authorities determined that the explosive was a dud, "Luckily, the RPG-7 round in this case was an inert round, meaning not an active explosive, but still scary none the less," said the Sheriff's Office.

The RPG-7 is manufactured in Russia and is a portable, reusable, unguided, shoulder-launched, anti-tank rocket launcher used around the world, over 9,000,000 of the portable rocket launchers have been made since its introduction in 1967.

Rocket-Propelled Grenade are highly regulated, for obvious reasons, they are categorized as a destructive device and any ownership must be registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, plus extensive background checks, licensing, and state law compliance must happen before anyone can own one.
