Going into the weekend, the threat of only a couple of inches of snow was in the forecast. The National Weather Service and most of the local TV meteorologists were forecasting 1-3 inches of snow early on, though those forecasts started trending upward as the snow got closer.

Forecasts for the Duluth area and portions of the North Shore quickly saw the forecast start to point to 4-6 inches of snow as the weekend got underway, though heavier snow was expected further north.

The far northern reaches of the North Shore, in areas like Grand Marais, were expected to see the greatest amount of snow. This ended up not happening, due to what they said was a convergence band developing off the shoreline.

While the far northern reaches of the North Shore didn't see as much as expected, much of the rest of Northeastern Minnesota and Northwestern Wisconsin saw totals fall in line with - or even exceed totals in the final NWS forecast Saturday before things got underway.
