Those who are thinking about jumping into an Electric Vehicle (EV) should check out this new rebate program starting this week in Minnesota.

The new Electric Vehicle (EV) Rebate Program will start accepting applications on Wednesday, February 7th beginning at 10 AM, the Minnesota Department of Commerce will be managing the rebate program which will offer different amounts depending on if it's new or used.

How to Qualify for Rebate?

The Minnesota Department of Commerce says to qualify for the rebate, vehicles must be either electric or plug-in hybrid, purchased or leased on or after May 25, 2023, be titled in Minnesota, and have a purchase price of $25,000 or less for used EVs, or a base MSRP of $55,000 or less, excluding taxes and fees for new EVS. Sorry, you can't get this rebate for Tesla's Cybertruck.

How Much is The Rebate?

Owners/lessees might get a rebate up to $2,500 for a new EV, and up to $600 for a used EV. To apply for the rebate, visit the site created by the Minnesota Department of Commerce here, you must have a current driver's license, an electric utility bill at time of EV purchase, and a purchase agreement or lease.

The MN Department of Commerce says, "Applications will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis. Please be aware that each rebate application will be processed individually to ensure program integrity. This means payments will not happen immediately."

Are There More EV Rebates Available?

The rebate from Minnesota can also be stacked with the federal EV rebate program, up to $7500 is available through that program. The federal program has tiered amounts depending on a variety of different vehicle criteria, and it also has some very specific qualifying conditions.
