Ranking Minnesota’s 2026 MNDOT ‘Name A Snowplow’ Winners
Following a bit of a delay, the winners of Minnesota's annual 'Name a Snowplow' contest have been announced!
The Minnesota Department of Transportation has been running this plow-naming contest for a number of years now, creating a bit of a trend that several other states and local governments have jumped on.
The 2025-2026 naming campaign was announced in December, with nearly 7,000 name suggestions submitted by the public. After narrowing that field down to 30 finalists, MNDOT opened voting to the public at the beginning of February.
MNDOT says a total of 18,800 people voted for their favorite names on the list of finalists this winter. The top 8 vote-receiving names have been declared, with one name being assigned to each of Minnesota's 8 MNDOT districts.

In the end, the overall winning name was one of my favorites - "Oh, For Sleet's Sake". The name collected the most overall votes. A couple of my other favorites didn't make the top 8, however.
A few finalist names I thought were pretty great that fell short of being one of the 8 winners include "Just Scraping By", "Feelin’ Salty", and "Mission: Impassable".
Here's a look at the names that did win, what MNDOT district they now represent, and how they ranked in overall voting.
