Each year, the Minnesota Lottery hosts the wildly popular Minnesota Millionaire Raffle, and for its 20th anniversary, the game delivered a memorable start to the new year. In total, 20,000 Minnesotans woke up as winners.

A Fast Sellout for a Milestone Year in Minnesota

Since 2006, the Minnesota Millionaire Raffle has sold one million tickets annually. Tickets for this year’s drawing went on sale October 21 and sold out in just 14 days, making it the fastest sellout in the game’s history.

The milestone anniversary also came with an expanded prize structure. Two tickets drawn on New Year’s Day each won $1 million. There were also five $100,000 prizes, five $50,000 prizes, five $25,000 prizes, and new for the 20th year, forty $20,000 prizes.

Northern Minnesota Claims a Million-Dollar Win

According to the Minnesota Lottery, one of the $1 million winning tickets was sold in Northern Minnesota. The other million-dollar ticket was purchased at a Holiday Station store in Coon Rapids, a suburb of the Twin Cities.

Celebrating 20 Years of Winners

Adam Prock, executive director of the Minnesota Lottery, said, "With this being the 20th anniversary, we wanted to give players a million reasons to celebrate and make this year extra special. Congratulations to all 20,000 winners!”

In Minnesota, all prize claims must be submitted within one year of the drawing date. Lottery prizes over $50,000 must be claimed in person at Minnesota Lottery headquarters in Roseville.

For many players across the state, especially in Northern Minnesota, this year’s raffle turned a holiday tradition into a life-changing moment.
