Every year, the Great Minnesota Get-Together offers hundreds of free entertainment options that largely include music, but also things like talent shows, comedy, a lumberjack show, and more.

All of these free entertainment options are included with the price of admission to the Minnesota State Fair, giving fairgoers either some passive entertainment while they get off their feet for a while or free access to some fun and engaging shows.

One of my favorite free entertainment options at the fair each year is the Leinie Lodge Bandshell shows, which include some fun throwback acts or up-and-coming performers you might already have some familiarity with.

Semisonic

Minnesota's own takes the free stage at the Leinie Lodge Bandshell on two different nights, playing on September 1 and 2. Known for their end-of-the-night anthem "Closing Time, Semisonic enjoyed some alt-rock chart success with other songs like "Singing in My Sleep" and "Secret Smile".

Marky Ramone playing The Ramones classics

Best known for playing drums for The Ramones for 15 years, Marky will bring punk rock sounds to the Leinie Lodge on August 28 and 29.

Maggie Rose

Singer-songwriter Maggie Rose will bring her blend of rock, soul, and Americana to the Leinie Lodge on August 24 and 25.

The War & Treaty

Grammy-nominated Americana/Southern Soul act The War Treaty has been on the rise since hitting the scene in 2016. Lately, they've done some collaborations that have further raised their profile, including with Zach Bryan on "Hey Driver", "Make It With You" with Nate Smith, and on a cover of "It's Only Rock 'N Roll (But I Like It)" with Brothers Osborne.

Besides dozens of musical acts, this year's free fair entertainment also includes things like the Timberworks Lumberjack Show, All-Star Stunt Dogs Splash, and much more. You can see the full lineup and daily schedule on the Minnesota State Fair website.
