$400M Water Park Could Debut in Minnesota by 2029
This project has been floating down a lazy river since 2018. The pandemic, funding problems, and a variety of other issues have prevented it from moving forward. Now, after years of rumors and delays, it looks like this long-discussed massive water park is finally about to happen.
Mystery Cove Water Park Opening in Minnesota in 2029?
The project, currently called Mystery Cove, will feature everything you’d expect from a world-class water park. That includes a giant wave pool, a winding lazy river, kid-friendly splash pads, and an impressive 30 water slides and rides, all under a retractable roof.

But it’s got one feature that sets it apart from any other water park in the world: it will be directly connected to the largest shopping mall in America, the Mall of America in Bloomington.

Funding Finally Secured
After years of debate, the water park at the Mall of America could start filling its pools as soon as 2029. Axios Twin Cities reports that officials have secured all the funding needed—an estimated $400 million—to build the 143,000-square-foot park. The City of Bloomington is pitching in about $160 million, while Mall of America’s owners, Triple Five, have secured loans to cover the rest.
What Happens Next
Before construction can begin, the Bloomington City Council and the Bloomington Port Authority must vote on the project. Those votes are scheduled for September 30. If approved, construction could begin in 2026 and wrap up in 2029. Once complete, the water park will connect to the Mall of America through a convenient skywalk system, making it one of the most unique attractions in Minnesota and the Midwest.
