The Lake Superior Zoo in Duluth just added some new animals to their zoo family, and they are SO cute.

I thought the Lake Superior Zoo reached peak cuteness when they welcomed Zhuzi the Red Panda in 2023, but these two new additions may be even cuter, and they come to Duluth from the world famous San Diego Zoo.

These fearless snake hunting cats from Africa's Sahara desert and parts of Central Asia will call the Griggs Learning Center their new home, the Sand Cats named Tony and Pumpkin are available to meet now at the Lake Superior Zoo.

Along with snakes, the cats also munch on small rodents and prefer a very dry, arid habitat with little vegetation, and when temperatures get too hot, they'll burrow into the sand to keep cool. Sand Cats can go weeks without water, they get any needed moisture from their prey.

Visitors are already sharing photos of the Sand Cats in their new home, and they may take the crown as the cutest animals at the Lake Superior Zoo. One person commented, "They have zero business being that cute.", and another said, "If not friends, why friend-shaped?"  The Lake Superior is now the only zoo in Minnesota that has Sand Cats in their collection.
