From Grapes to Bait: Minnesota’s Oldest Winery Just Made a Shocking Announcement
A legacy spanning 50 years is entering an exciting new phase as Minnesota’s oldest winery makes headlines with a big announcement.
The Hastings winery, founded in 1973, has been tended by Nan Bailly, whose father started it. After celebrating the vineyard's 50th anniversary last year, Nan announced on Facebook yesterday that it’s time to pass the torch—and the hoses, barrels, and vines—to a new family.

New Owner of Minnesota's Oldest Vineyard
Chet and Andrea Haider of Farmington, along with their four kids and golden retriever, Fin, are the new owners. The Haiders fell in love with Alexis Bailly Vineyard while helping with the harvest this year. Their enthusiasm and passion for the vineyard’s rich history made them the perfect fit to continue its legacy, according to Nan.
For Nan, this transition is bittersweet. “My father gave me a gift with the winery when he died many years ago,” she shared. “I’ve treasured that gift every day.” But now, she’s looking forward to a new chapter of her own.
What is Next for the Vineyard Owner?
Nan and her husband, Sam, are moving to a cabin north of Grand Rapids, where she plans to learn the art of fishing while still staying connected to the vineyard she’s poured her heart into.
Nan assured loyal customers that she’ll remain involved to ensure the same high-quality wines and welcoming atmosphere Alexis Bailly is known for.
A Vineyard in Minnesota? This Vineyard Was a Trailblazer
The vineyard was a trailblazer in cold-climate winemaking, proving that great wine can be crafted even in the challenging conditions of Minnesota. Founder David Bailly’s bold vision was rooted in the motto, “Where the grapes can suffer,” emphasizing that adversity often produces the best wines.
Over the decades, Alexis Bailly Vineyard has won numerous awards for its exceptional wines, including their signature Hastings Reserve and the ever-popular Rosé Noir.
