Good News For Traffic At Busy Duluth Intersection
We got some good news from St. Louis County officials about a busy Duluth intersection experiencing some traffic issues earlier this week.
On Monday, an accident at the intersection of Haines Road and West Arrowhead Road near Costco in Duluth caused an outage of the stoplights controlling traffic.
The accident led to the electrical service pole and controller cabinet for the intersection's signal system to be "destroyed", leaving county officials to find a solution.
The immediate fix was placing stop signs at the intersection, making it a four-way stop. The Haines Road-West Arrowhead Road intersection sees an average of around 24,000 vehicles each day.
While necessary to keep the intersection safe, stop signs significantly slow down the flow of traffic, and officials with St. Louis County warned of potential significant traffic back-ups and congestion in the area - particularly during busy times of the day.

County officials estimated it might take at least all of this week, if not longer, as they looked for replacement parts to fix the control system for the stoplights. Part of their search included the county looking to other area traffic authorities to see if they had any replacement parts.
On Thursday morning, it was reported that the stoplights at the intersection are mostly back up and running. This is fantastic news for drivers who use this busy roadway, being able to get things back up and running ahead of schedule.
It was noted in an update about the intersection that crews may still have to switch the lights into "all-way stop" or red flashing lights in all directions at times as they work on minor updates to the signal system.
There was no timeline provided on when work should be completely finished, but things are mostly back to normal at the busy Duluth intersection.
