Be On The Lookout For Scams Related To The Duluth Airshow
The Duluth Airshow is a huge event, the largest of its kind in all of Minnesota. The wildly popular event at the Duluth International Airport draws crowds of thousands of people each year.
The buzz around this big event seems to also have the attention of scammers trying to take advantage of people interested in the Duluth Airshow.
Over the last couple of years, I've seen a series of interesting scam tactics pop up online, primarily on social media, trying to trick unsuspecting aviation enthusiasts into doing something they shouldn't do.
Here are some of the scams I've personally seen, what to look out for, and how to protect yourself.
Duluth Airshow scams seen in the wild
Over the last few years, there have been a couple of recurring scams I've seen, but a new one has already popped up for this year that caught my eye.

The ones I've seen in years past are someone jumping into the comments of an official social media post from the Duluth Airshow itself or from a legitimate local media organization, dropping a questionable link.
Those scam comments have offered things like exclusive live video streams of the Duluth Airshow's aerial events (there is no such stream - but there is an official informational stream before flying starts), special or discounted tickets, or other too-good-to-be-true exclusives.
The scammer's whole goal is to get you to tap on the link to either get you to give them some information or money, or potentially get something malicious downloaded onto your device. None of those things are good.
Something new I saw a couple of days ago was a whole fake Duluth Airshow Facebook page set up. There were several telltale signs it was fake (few followers, it wasn't a verified account, it only had a small handful of posts, the page was pretty new, etc.), but I quickly reported it to Facebook and haven't seen it since.
How to protect yourself from these Duluth Airshow scams
The most crucial thing is to know where you're clicking online. We here at the radio stations are official media partners for the Duluth Airshow, and get valid information directly from the show's organizers.

Other reputable local media outlets similarly get information directly from the show's organizers. Be leery of links dropped in the comments of social media posts, however. That's where a lot of these scams take place.
Finally, the Duluth Airshow's official website and social media are valuable resources, too. Again, be careful about what you see in the comments on social media, but here are the official links for them:
