I love visiting small towns, there is a certain charm and beauty of small town America that you can't get anywhere else, so a recent list of the best small towns caught my attention, and you might be surprised what small towns in Wisconsin made the list.

The list was put together by Farandwide.com, and it compiles the Top 100 small towns in America, a small town is considered to be a population of 10,000 residents or fewer, and Wisconsin has three small towns that made the list, one I've visited, and two I've never heard of.

Mineral Point, Wisconsin

Located in Southwest, Wisconsin, Mineral Point ranks 45 on the list and has a population of 2,581 and according to the official town website, "We are a creative community filled with local business owners, makers, painters, potters, farmers, and foodies." FarandWide.com says that most of the buildings in the downtown were built with limestone the English settlers brought with them.

Hayward, Wisconsin

With a population of 2,533, Hayward, Wisconsin is ranked 41 on the list and is located in the Northwestern part of the state, it's a popular tourist destination in the region because of its abundant lakes and outdoor activities. The list points out that Hayward is a great area for camping, biking, or doing some fishing and boating. Hayward is also home to the Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame, and popular events like the American Birkebeiner cross country ski race, the World Lumberjack Championships and the Chequamegon Fat Tire bicycle race.

A small Wisconsin town made the top 3 of this list of 100, not bad! Stockholm has a tiny population of about 215 people, and is located on the Mississippi River near the border of Minnesota in the Southwestern corner of the state. The list says, "From its food to its architecture, this beautiful tiny town displays its roots with gusto."

Stockholm also has an amazing place to get some pie, check out Stockholm Pie and General Store for a tasty treat if you're ever in town. They also feature a menu of classic Scandinavian dishes.
