'Tis the season! It's hard to escape from the commercialized nature of the Christmas season - with wall-to-wall sales in stores, holiday music everywhere, and the never-ending cycle of seasonal-related ways to ride the bandwagon.
Add one more: An annual survey of states in the nation that have the Most Christmas Spirit was just released. But before you write it off as just more way for companies to cash in on the holiday rush - you may want to know that Wisconsin ranked pretty high. And, Minnesota didn't do so bad, either.
The Most Christmas Spirit ranking is put out by GetCenturyLink.com - and it's something they've been doing for a few years now. According to their website they use a variety of different factors for their metrics - including "evergreen farm numbers, charitable giving, and how often [those state] residents online shop, stream, and Tweet Christmas content".
As they compiled their ranking, the company discovered some interesting things along the way. Here are a few things you might want to know based off of their findings:
- Washington, D.C. continues its ranking in last place for the third year in a row
- Vermont has the most Christmas tree farms per capita - a ranking that it has maintained over the last four years. Oregon comes in second place this year for tree farms
- Californians make the most tax-deductible charitable contributions - followed by Texas in second place, according to the Internal Revenue Service
- New Hampshire takes the top spot - as the state with the Most Christmas Spirit. This marks New Hampshire's second year at the top of the ranking
So how did Wisconsin and Minnesota do? Well, Wisconsin took second place honors overall - ranking as the state with the second Most Christmas Spirit. Last year, Wisconsin was in 16th place. Meanwhile, Minnesota continues its run near the middle of the ranking list. It comes in in 24th place for 2022, which is only slightly higher than it's 27th place ranking in 2021 and its 25th place ranking in 2020.
In addition to the full ranking list, GetCenturyLink.com also includes a wide variety of demographically-interesting details about the states in regards to how they celebrate the holidays.
