A future road project to improve safety considerations at five different intersections along a busy stretch of Highway 169 will get another round of public comment and discussion opportunities in the next week. The scope of the road work would make improvements to the intersections that exist immediately outside of the Chisholm corridor and the Minnesota Discovery Center on the Iron Range.

While no timeline has been established for the work to start, the MInnesota Department of Transportation has made the work a priority for their future planning. The project page for the work on their website details that the benefits would bring "increased safety and potential enhancements to mobility through the corridor".

The purpose of these advance public meetings is to solicit comments and questions on the proposed alternative intersection ideas prior to the design phase.

The five intersections that are being looked at include:

  • Highway 169 / Highway 73
  • Highway 169 / Iron World Drive
  • Highway 169 / West Drive
  • Highway 169 / Access Road
  • Highway 169 / 4th Avenue

The Minnesota Department of Transportation is inviting interested individuals to take part in a hybrid meeting about the project on Tuesday, January 31 starting at 5:00 PM.  To accommodate the number of people who might participate and varying schedules, the hybrid method will have both an in-person meeting option as well as an online link.

The in-person meeting will happen at the Minnesota Discovery Center: 1005 Discovery Drive in Chisholm. Those wishing to attend the online portion can do so by clicking the link for the virtual meeting, which is available on the MNDOT website.
