It’s Free Fun Weekend in Wisconsin June 6-7, 2020
The Wisconsin DNR is having a "Free Fun Weekend" tomorrow and Sunday, June 6th & 7th. During the free fun weekend, Wisconsin residents can get outdoors without the normal fees. You can fish for free on any of Wisconsin's lakes, rivers, and streams. You also can fish on the Wisconsin side of border rivers.
June 6th is also National Trails Day, so the DNR is waving all non resident trail passes for ATV trails this weekend. In Wisconsin, non residents normally need to purchase a trail pass to ride.
No state park admission stickers are required this weekend. Trail passes are also not required for this weekend only.
Normally the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources holds fun educational events, but those have been cancelled for this year. Discovery Day was to take place in Kettle Moraine where they would have had activities such as archery, astronomy, canoeing, and fishing clinics. While the event calendar doesn't specify, it is likely cancelled because of COVID-19. Also cancelled is the free fishing clinic that would take place in Sheboygann, Wisconsin.
Just because the clinics have been cancelled it doesn't mean you can't get outside. Locally we have many Wisconsin State Parks nearby. Pattison Park is a great place to spend a day and it's very close to Superior. Amnicon Falls is also just a short drive away. With the free fishing event, you could try your luck on the Brule River. It's a beautiful area with plenty of great stream fishing spots.
Weather this weekend looks better on Saturday than Sunday, so be sure to check the forecast before you head out the door. Have fun outdoors!
