The seasons are definitely changing and with them come the summer road construction season.   Drivers who utilize the I-35 corridor in the Duluth Metro will want to know about some upcoming ramp closures tied to annual inspections - the week of April 22-25.

According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, inspection crews will be hard at work all week long to get a start on the season.  While the crew will be in the general I-35 corridor area all week long, they will be tasked to specific ramps each day.  Here are the details:

  • Monday, April 22
The northbound and southbound Michigan Street Bridge over southbound Highway 194 will be reduced to a single lane between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM. The ramp from southbound Highway 194 to southbound I-35 will have alternating lane closures between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM.
  • Tuesday, April 23
The northbound I-535 to northbound I-35 ramp will close between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM for routine inspections.  Motorists will be detoured.
  • Wednesday, April 24
The northbound I-535 to southbound I-35 ramp will close between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM for routine inspections. Motorists will be detoured.
  • Thursday, April 25
The westbound Highway 194 Bridge over Superior Street will have alternating lane closures between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM. Motorists will encounter alternating lane closures beneath the bridge on Superior Street.

With all of these days and each of the ramp inspections, the closed ramps will be open for the morning and evening commute - in order to alleviate traffic congestion.
